Innovative Technologies for Printed Electronics, Sensors, and Materials

C. Punckt
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, DE

Keywords: advanced manufacturing, printed electronics

Summary:

Printed electronics and sensors as well as ultra-high resolution 3D printing and patterning of materials are important fields of current research and development, particularly so if novel (nano) materials are combined with innovative fabrication techniques. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the competence centers for printed electronics and materials in Germany, covering the complete value chain from materials development and proof-of-concept trials to industrial-scale manufacturing. This is possible due to the combination of expertise from academia and industry and a strong support program for start-up companies based on newly developed technology. The presentation will showcase different new manufacturing technologies developed at the KIT, including 3D laser lithography with < 200 nm feature size, biomimetic polymer “nanofur” fabricated through hot pulling, organic solar cells for eco-friendly energy harvesting, organic light emitting diodes for novel lighting applications, printed sensors, and printed inorganic electronics for high power applications.
