Prof. Dibakar Bhattacharyya (DB) is the University of Kentucky Alumni Chair Professor of Chemical Engineering, Director of the Center of Membrane Sciences, a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and President Elect North American Membrane Society. Recently he started collaborative work with Sepro Membranes, CA (as Senior Visiting Scientist), and SMTC, Singapore (as Visiting Principal Scientist). He received his Ph.D.at the Illinois Institute of Technology, MS in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University, and BS in Chemical Engineering from Jadavpur University. He has published over 180 refereed journal articles and 21 book chapters, 2 books, and has 8 U.S. Patents in functionalized membranes and water detoxification area. Recently, by working with Sepro he and his associates have made both pore-functionalized and positively-charged NF membranes in full-scale and in module form. The research and technological advances are due to the dedicated work by his PhD and undergraduate students. Dr. Bhattacharyya has received a number of awards for his research and educational accomplishments, including the 2013 Dean’s Inaugural Research award, 2010 AICHE Epstein Award, 2009 Gerhold Award from the AICHE Separations Division for his outstanding contributions in Membrane Separations Technology Development, 2004 Kirwan Prize for Outstanding Research accomplishments, Larry K. Cecil AIChE Environmental Division Award for outstanding membrane technology developments in the water related field, the Kentucky Academy of Sciences Distinguished Scientist Award, Henry M. Lutes Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Engineering Educator, AIChE Outstanding Student Chapter Counselor Awards, and the University of Kentucky Great Teacher (1984,1996, 2008) Awards. Dr. Bhattacharyya was honored for his contributions in the area of Functionalized Membranes.
