Summary:The effect of the inverse parabolic potential on optical transitions in a cylindrical wire is investigated. The excitation beam is one of circularly polarized light. Evaluation of the matrix elements leads to the selection rule the angular momentum quantum numbers of the initial and final states must differ by unity. The potential redshifts peaks of the transition rates as it intensifies. In addition, the dependence of the transition rates on the strength of the inverse parabolic potential is characterized by undulations.
