Director of Global Business Development
ImerysSean Ireland is Director of Global Business Development, Imerys Fiberlean Division. Mr. Ireland directs, prioritizes and is responsible for all non-paper business development. Although he has extensive experience in electronics and process control systems, his interest span physical and surface sciences, nano-scale technologies with a focus on cellulosic nano materials, fibers and nano-clays used in nano composite systems. Since 2009, he has been integral in working with multiple government agencies to obtain federal funding for critically needed nanocellulose research and development and a federal Nanocellulose Center. Prior to working in the Forest Products Industry, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Ireland received his commission and wings in 1990. He then went on to fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon and was the Commander of the 174th Forward Operating Location (FOL) located at 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. While working within the industry, he held positions in information technology, process control, project management, product development, managing research, and managing engineering. He is credited with a number of patent and applications on neural models, non-linear classification systems and novel coating formulations. He has authored or co-authored several technical papers on non-linear systems and nanocellulose technology. He recently retired as the Chair for the TAPPI Nano Division, Board Member on the Agenda 2020 Technology Alliance and Co-Chair for the Agenda 2020 Nano Materials and Novel Products Task Force.
