Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering
Case Western Reserve UniversityAgata Exner, Ph.D. is Professor of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. She is an innovator in the field of image guided drug delivery leading an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Case Center for Imaging Research. Her research focuses on development of minimally invasive approaches to cancer management including multifunctional nanoparticles for ultrasound-mediated cancer detection and treatment, drug-eluting polymer implants for intratumoral chemotherapy, and targeted thermosensitizers for improved hyperthermia treatment of cancer. A highly funded researcher with over $7 million dollars of extramurally supported grant funding, Dr. Exner has been a primary investigator on 14 projects. In continuing service to the academic community, Dr. Exner has held an active role in providing biomedical research training opportunities for students of all ages with an emphasis in mentoring women engineers. Dr. Exner is a recent recipient of the Mather Spotlight Prize for Women Faculty and a mentoring award from the Case Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program. Nationally, she is a chartered study section member for the NIH and a member of the editorial board for the journal Therapeutic Delivery. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, Distinguished Investigator of the Academy of Radiology Research and Associate Editor of the Annals of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Exner obtained her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 2003.
