Adesso has developed the world first Recyclable Recycloset® Resin technology by employing patent-pending Cleavamine® degradable curing agents. Fiber reinforced composites manufactured from epoxy resins cured with matched Cleavamine® curing agents can undergo degradation under mild conditions, resulting in complete separation of the fibers from the dissolved epoxy resin matrix.
Primary Application Area: Materials, Chemical
Technology Development Status: Commercial Product
FIGURES OF MERIT
Value Proposition: Adesso has demonstrated recyclable composites exhibited comparable thermal and mechanical properties to industry standard non-recyclable thermoset composites. In the mean time, Adesso has achieved comparable cost structure of recyclable formulated resins, which allow the industry to manufacture green recyclable composites with comparable costs. In addition, Adesso is optimizing its chemical recycling technology under mild conditions, i.e. under ambient pressure and at around 100 - 150 degree Celsius, and has accomplished a pilot scale recycling operation. 95% of the fibers can be recovered and maintain over 97% mechanical strength comparing to that of virgin fibers. The reclaimed degraded resins has been demonstrated as thermoplastic polymers. A cost effective recycling and reuse of recycled fiber and resin can potentially reduce cost of the carbon fiber composite industry and make a significant impact to sustainability of the carbon fiber composite industry.
a) Offers green products to end-users;
b) Make composite manufacturer’s product more attractive to end-users for its recyclability;
c) Saves costs for customers after reusing the re-claimed fiber and resin, thus significantly reduce cost for composite industry.
d) For automotive industry, the technology will help carbon fiber composite's market penetration into the automotive industry, in addition, avoid tax penalty for OEMs.
