Summary:

Collagen-based corneal implants have demonstrated safe and effective capabilities for producing suitable matrices for eyesight recovery in patients affected by corneal diseases. However, the performance of such implants is somewhat limited for chronically infected corneas. In this presentation, we will discuss a new technology that can graft within minutes non-toxic antimicrobial nanosilver onto the surface of corneal implants. The biocompatibility of our materials was tested in vitro and in vivo using a pre-clinical model.
