Summary:
Quantum information science and technologies are growing rapidly in recently years. To achieve the challenging problem of controlling the delicate quantum system, we will need to harness the quantum properties of the materials, upon which the quantum technologies are built. In this talk, we will discuss what the two-dimensional layer material platform can offer with its atomically thin heterostructure. As an example, we will present how to detect single-photons using the superconductor-graphene-superconductor junction. This is possible because the Dirac fermions are in extreme thermal isolation with minute specific heat that can be exploited for ultra-sensitive bolometers and calorimeters.
