A concept study of MIBS hull form basis gas hydrates fuel supply system

Summary:

Gas hydrates account for only a third of methane reserves compared to liquefied natural gas. In addition, the volume and weight are three times larger, resulting in poor storage efficiency. On the other hand, the mass of ice formed gas hydrate leaves 70 to 80% of the volume of water after the gas is recovered. The heavy weight and low storage efficiency of the gas hydrates considered as poor ability as fuel for ships. However, gas hydrate can replace the ballast water of the MIBS(minimal ballast water ship). Methane of gas hydrate can also be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the mixed combustion of hydrogen. In this proceeding, the gas hydrate fuel supply system using the MIBS vessel has conceptually studied, especially focusing on the economic efficiency of the fresh water supply function.
