Summary:

Batteries are systems which function far from equilibrium, where kinetics often plays an important role in the function of the electrochemical energy storage system. For nanostructured and advanced materials, methods which provide spatially and time-resolved information are particularly valuable. In-situ and operando techniques providing mechanistic information regarding the function of energy storage systems under use relevant conditions will be highlighted in this presentation. This will include approaches enabling visualization of phase changes within intact stainless steel cells.
