Summary:

MXenes could be useful reinforcements for polymer composites. Their reactive and hydrophilic surfaces makes them attractive as fillers in a number of polymers. In the present work, the synthesis of Ti3C2/ poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) composites by using a simple solution casting method is reported. MXenes are derived by selectively etching the A-layers from MAX phases. Dimethylformamide (DMF) was used as solvent for solutions of pure PMMA and composite with mxenes in solution casting method. Composites were characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR and near IR spectroscopy, while hardness and tensile testing was performed for revealing mechanical properties. The Ti3C2/PMMA composites showed enhanced hardness, elastic modulus and tensile strength compared with pure PMMA.
