Dr. Scott Twary is a senior Research Scientist and Team Leader of the Biome and Bioenergy Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research is focused on improving algal productivity and sustainability. The work utilizes a systems biology approach to identify key metabolic targets for genetic engineering. Current studies include enhancing carbon assimilation efficiency through enhanced carbon concentrating mechanisms. His research also focuses on non-GMO population improvement. Single cell sorting is used to improve algae population phenotypes based on selectable assays. He played an integral role in the algal biology research portfolio of the National Alliance for Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts consortium. Dr. Twary received his Ph. D. from The University of Minnesota and completed a Postdoctoral appointment at New Mexico State University before joining Los Alamos National Laboratory.
