Ryan K. Roeder earned B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Engineering from Purdue University in 1994 and 1999, respectively, and then completed a two year post-doctoral research appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Indiana University Medical Center. Ryan is currently a Professor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering Graduate Program at the University of Notre Dame, where he was initially appointed in 2001. His research interests broadly span biomaterials, including nanoparticles for imaging probes and drug delivery and scaffolds for regenerating tissues; biomechanics, including the mechanobiology and micromechanics of musculoskeletal tissues; and biomedical imaging, including photon-counting spectral computed tomography. Ryan has published more than 100 journal papers in these areas and trained eighteen doctoral students and three postdocs who have subsequently achieved their own success in research positions at universities, research hospitals, private research institutes, and industry. Ryan has been active in translating his research to the clinic serving as a founder, board member and CTO of HAPPE Spine LLC.
