After doing PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Sheffield (UK) and postdoctoral research assignments, over a period of 2 years, in UK, Germany and Canada, Phalguni’s professional career started with the National Research Council of Canada (NRCC), Ottawa, Ontario in 1999. His research outputs influenced many changes in the Canadian building construction practices over the years and he received several awards/recognitions from the stakeholders of the construction industry in Canada and abroad. In 2015, Phalguni moved to the University of Victoria (UVic) to be a Professor in the newly established Civil Engineering Department. Prior to joining UVic, Phalguni was leading the Insulation and Building Materials Laboratory (IBML) at NRCC. Phalguni’s current research focus is on: high performance thermal insulations, energy efficient buildings, moisture management, green buildings, novel structures and construction materials, and their impacts on climate change and sustainability.
