Summary:
Machine learning (ML) techniques have made significant strides in the past decades. However, there are plenty of opportunities for ML in advanced manufacturing. In this talk, I will share some progress we made in the past years on the application of ML in three main components of advanced manufacturing: materials, processes, and products. Specifically, I will discuss how ML can efficiently guide engineers to discover printable polymer formulations with high mechanical performance, how can ML optimize 3D printing design to achieve target mechanical properties, and how can ML make tactile textiles smart, respectively. I believe ML or AI can make manufacturing even more “advanced” in the next few years.
