Dr. Cooksey is a biomedical engineer and project leader in the Microsystems and Nanotechnology Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He leads research programs that are developing microfluidic and imaging technologies to improve sensing and diagnostic capabilities in biological measurement systems. In one project associated with the NIST on a Chip Program, the lab has developed real-time flow measurements to 1nL/min with 5% uncertainty. In another project, the team has developed a serial optofluidic cytometer that repeats measurements of individual objects in order to estimate per-object uncertainty. The optofluidic cytometry project earned a 5-year Innovation in Measurement Science grant from NIST in 2021
