Jaydeep Deshpande is a Principal Open Innovation Engineer at Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS). Open Innovation group builds R&D partnerships with industrial capabilities, academic research units, and national labs to advance fusion energy deployment. CFS’ mission is to bring fusion power plants to the grid globally to mitigate climate change. CFS spun out of MIT to commercialize fusion energy by leveraging decades of proven fusion science and combining it with new groundbreaking high-field superconducting magnet technology. These magnets use high temperature superconducting (HTS) tape to enable fusion power plants that are 40 times smaller and as a result faster, lower cost, and more deployable enabling fusion power to play a key role in the clean energy transition.
