Real-time and passive acoustic structural monitoring of ships and components

TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

We propose a system for real-time structural health monitoring of naval ships and engines using unique polymer-based ultrasound sensors (polyCMUTs). The sensor network operates in passive mode, complemented by an intelligent signal processing layer, to detect acoustic emission in the structure and the response to ambient vibrations.
