he Japanese government is committed to achieving sustainable and clean energy, and has recently announced a new fusion strategy that includes policy support, funding, and international collaboration. This strategic framework has facilitated the development of critical technologies and infrastructure necessary for advancing fusion energy. In response to the government’s initiatives, the Fusion Energy Council (J-Fusion) was established in Japan in May 2024. The mission of J-Fusion is to leverage the strengths of its member companies to accelerate the commercialization of fusion energy. Through collaboration with academic institutions and participation in international projects, J-Fusion addresses key challenges in the fusion supply chain by developing advanced materials and components.Japan’s fusion sector is characterized by a dynamic interplay of collaboration and competition among governmental bodies, research institutions, and private enterprises.
