Keywords: company incubation, enabling technologies

Summary:

The mission of the NMETI is to ‘build the supply chain for the energy transition one company at a time’. The NMETI seeks to apply the best business practices across all of the organizations, help each company find commercial traction through customer discovery, development of solutions, and investment. The fusion industry is growing rapidly, with over $8Bn flowing into the nascent market sector in the last 2 years. The sudden influx of capital follows stunning scientific and technological progress with demonstration of high field HTS magnets and realizing fusion gain for the first time in history in the NIF. The US DOE has built a ‘bold decadal vision’ for fusion, starting new national and international programs to accelerate fusion energy commercialization, supporting private fusion companies in their ambitions to realize their plans for fusion power plants in the very near term. The technologies that will enable fusion are as diverse as advanced manufacturing, materials discovery, high temperature superconducting magnets, lasers and power supplies. The NMETI seeks to work with national labs, state and city and federal programs to accelerate tech transfer in enabling technologies and build companies to solve supply chain issues.
