Summary:

TDA Research has successfully developed a continuous hydrothermal LFP synthesis process that is easily scalable to industrially-relevant quantities. Our process combines standard chemical unit operations that have been demonstrated at very large scale in the chemical industry. Our results show that we can produce very high purity LFP materials (> 99% purity) in high yield (> 9+6% yield). The LFP products also contain small active nanocrystals (~ 31 nm), which enhance the LFP’s performance. Testing in coin cells shows excellent capacity (~150-165 mAh/g) with no capacity fading after > 50 cycles even at 90% initial state-of-charge (SOC). This performance is better than that of the commercially available LFP. We will present the results of the scale-up, manufacture, characterization, and performance in batteries, both carried out at TDA and with an independent battery manufacturer.
