Dr. Madhava Syamlal (Syam) is the founder and CEO of QubitSolve, a startup working on a quantum solution for computational fluid dynamics (CFD). He holds a B.Tech in chemical engineering from IIT (BHU) and an MS and Ph.D. from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. He retired from US DOE’s National Energy Technology Lab as Senior Fellow for Computational Sciences and Engineering. He made numerous contributions to the theory and numerical techniques of multiphase CFD and the open-source CFD software MFIX, used worldwide by industry and academia. He was the founding Technical Director of the Carbon Capture Simulation Initiative, a $48 million DOE project, which created software tools that are being used to develop low-carbon energy technologies. He was the principal investigator of the MFIX-Exa project ($13 million) under DOE’s Exascale Computing Project for developing CFD software for exascale supercomputers. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has received several awards, including three R&D 100 awards, the DOE Secretary’s Achievement Honor Award, the Illinois Tech Alumni Professional Achievement Award, and AIChE’s 2020 Elsevier PTF Award for Lifetime Achievements.
