Mr. Bohanan manages of the Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) program, an agile procurement accelerator within the Office of the Under Secretary for Research and Engineering. Designed to expedite the transition of capabilities into production and accelerate fielding to the warfighter, APFIT prioritizes technologies developed by small businesses and nontraditional defense contractors. Mr. Bohanan’s team ensures APFIT serves as an additional tool for the Department of Defense to bridge the "Valley of Death" and rapidly propel innovative capabilities into the hands of warfighters.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Bohanan served as the Program Manager for the Rapid Prototyping Program (RPP) within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Managing a portfolio with an annual budget of $100 million, he oversaw the execution of more than 20 prototyping efforts aimed at meeting urgent needs throughout the DoD. During this time, he also stood up the Research and Engineering (R&E) Analytics
dashboard within the ADVANA platform hosted by the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO).
Before joining the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Mr. Bohanan served as a lead engineer and project manager for multiple rapid response efforts in support of the Navy and US Special Operations Command. He led the integration of advanced mission systems aboard Littoral Combat Ships, Aircraft Carriers, and Amphibious Warfare ships. Mr. Bohanan received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech.
