Opioids pose significant risks of addiction due to the cyclical nature of serum opiate concentration associated with traditional dosing methods. The researchers have developed a novel method of measuring and monitoring serum opiate concentrations in real time, by modifying commercially available biosensors. This methodology yields a result that is consistently accurate within 9% of the tested opioid concentration and opens the door for feedback control to revolutionize pain management.
