HyVelocity, The Texas and Gulf Coast Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub

Keywords: clean hydrogen renewable network demonstration hub

Summary:

In October, 2023, a proposal submitted by GTI Energy, along with the Center for Houston's Future, the University of Texas, Port Houston, and seven industrial leaders in the hydrogen industry was selected as one of seven regional clean hydrogen hubs by the US Department of Energy. HyVelocity hub has been years in the making and is supported by dozens of organizations that make up the regional clean energy ecosystem in Texas and the gulf coast. Texas and the gulf coast are well-positioned to become a leading producer, end-user, and exporter of clean hydrogen in the U.S. and globally. The Texas gulf coast already produces and consumes over a third of the conventional hydrogen in the U.S. Projects that have been announced in the region will substantially increase that production. The combination of natural resources, infrastructure, state regulatory environment, ports, workforce, and geology make the gulf coast region unique among the seven selected regional hubs. As one of the hub's organizers, Mr. Weeks will describe the goals of the hub and how it fits with other federal and private investment projects in the region that are focused on hydrogen.
