Dr. Nedwed retired in 2023 as the Oil Spill Response Principal Advisor with ExxonMobil. He now runs his own research company (Safety Harbor Corp) and manufacturing company (Dasic USA LLC). He has a B.S in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas and M.S. & Ph.D. degress in environmental engineering from the University of Houston. He worked for ExxonMobil for 25 years and led the oil spill response research program for the last 20 years. Dr. Nedwed developed several new methods of oil spill response that led to important advances. He led several major industry wide oil spill response research efforts with total budgets exceeding $15M. He has over 75 publications and 19 patents related to his research. He is frequently invited to speak on oil spill response at external forums. The achievements of Dr. Nedwed were recognized by ExxonMobil’s Upstream Research Company when he received the 2010 Innovation, Creativity, and Excellence (ICE) award for outstanding innovation and creativity. In 2013, Dr. Nedwed received the prestigious Edith and Peter O'Donnell Award for Technology Innovation given by the Academy of Medicine, Engineering, and Science of Texas (TAMEST). In 2019, he received the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering (EMRE) Technical Award. Dr. Nedwed is the only ExxonMobil employee to win both the ICE award and the EMRE award. These are the two most prestigious technical innovation awards given by ExxonMobil.
