What 3D Printing Cannot Achieve: Rethinking Additive Manufacturing of Composites

Kelvin Fu is the Terri Connor Kelly and John Kelly Career Development Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware and a faculty member at the Center for Composite Materials (CCM). He is the co-founder of CarbonForm Inc. and serves as an assistant editor for Composites Part B: Engineering. Fu directs the Composites & Additive Manufacturing (CAM) Laboratory, where his research focuses on advancing composite materials and additive manufacturing technologies. Fu is recognized as a 2024-2022 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and was honored with the 2023 Outstanding Early Career Faculty Award at the University of Delaware. His innovation in 3D printing was a finalist for the TCT Hardware Award - Non-Polymer Systems at the TCT Awards 2024 and a winner/finalist of the Award for Composite Excellence (ACE) at CAMX. Since 2021, Fu has led over $8 million in projects funded by the DOE (Fossil Energy, ARPA-E Open, AMO).
