Sustainable Chemicals and Fuels via Refinery Integration: Experimenting at Industrial Scale

A. Gupta
Phillips 66,
United States

Summary:

Phillips 66 has pursued and operationalized the use of existing refinery assets to produce sustainable fuels in both stand-alone and co-processing approaches. Dating back to the mid-2000’s, Phillips 66 has produced renewable diesel via co-processing soybean oil and waste beef tallow in Ireland and Texas. More recently we operate a 50,000 renewable fuels complex processing a variety of fats, oils and greases in California and have co-processed several waste sustainable feedstocks at Humber Refinery in the UK and our Sweeny Refinery in Texas. This talk will focus on successes, challenges, and future opportunities related to processing complex sustainable feedstocks at scale using existing energy infrastructure.
