Dr. Crumpton-Young serves as the Section Head for the Small Business section within the Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP) Directorate Program Director at the National Science Foundation. Dr. Crumpton-Young is a serial entrepreneur with extensive small business experience. 

Dr. Lesia L Crumpton-Young served as the 13th President of Texas Southern University. Dr. Crumpton-Young is a transformative leader with more than 25 years of executive leadership experience gained while serving in the roles of University President, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Morgan State University; Vice President for Research and Institutional Advancement at Tennessee State University; Associate Provost at Texas A&M University; Associate Dean of Engineering at Mississippi State University; as well as Professor and Chair of the Industrial Engineering and Management Systems Department at the University of Central Florida.

Dr. Crumpton-Young received a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University with the distinction of being the first African American female to receive a Ph.D. in Engineering and one of the first African American females in the country to reach the rank of Full Professor in Engineering. Dr. Crumpton-Young also holds an MBA from Tennessee State University. Dr. Crumpton-Young is the proud recipient of the US Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) from President Obama for achievements in helping to advance the STEM Workforce in our nation.

Dr. Crumpton-Young has been a change agent in multiple organizations ushering new, fiscal management strategies, budgeting initiatives, decision-making paradigms, hiring practices, business development strategies, organizational success initiatives, transdisciplinary academic programs, transformative grant programs and professional development initiatives; significantly increasing multi-millions of dollars in funding and planning initiatives to advance national rankings; restructuring personnel workload policies, enhancing personnel incentive programs, and establishing innovation programs; and managing multi-millions annually, while diversifying partnership support. 

Dr. Crumpton-Young is an exceptional professional recognized for demonstrating transformative leadership and an excellent record of working with teams to achieve unprecedented success at an accelerated pace. During the span of a three-decade career in academia, Dr. Crumpton-Young has led various institutions through the process of achieving their highest priorities. Dr. Crumpton-Young is passionate about ensuring the success of individuals, institutions, businesses and organizations as well as advancing technological innovations in our nation thereby stimulating economic and community development while advancing national security.
