Svetlana V. Boriskina is a Principal Research Scientist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT and Director of the Multifunctional Metamaterials (META) Research Lab. Her interdisciplinary research combines materials science, polymer physics, photonics, heat transfer, mechanics, and advanced manufacturing to develop multifunctional materials for energy, water, and sustainability applications. Her lab engineers materials across scales, from nanostructured and porous media to polymer fibers, textiles, and hybrid architectures, to control the transport and conversion of light, heat, mass, and mechanical energy. Her current research explores how engineered materials can reduce the energy cost of harvesting, transporting, and managing water and heat, including atmospheric water capture, adaptive thermal transport, solid-state cooling, and sustainable textiles. Dr. Boriskina has authored more than 150 journal publications, holds multiple patents, and has received honors including the MIT Water Innovation Prize and the TechConnect Innovation Award.
