Dr.
Nicholas Siemons has a PhD in material science from Imperial College, and has
completed a postdoctoral scholarship at Stanford University researching
next-generation energy storage materials. Since 2023, Nick has been
building out STEER’s analytical software platforms in the battery research
space. He has lead the design and implementation of OpenCell, which is
now being used worldwide across 40 countries to support battery R&D.
In February 2026 Nick lead STEER’s efforts in roadmapping solid-state
battery technologies to explore potential R&D pathways and to assess the
strengths and weaknesses of different solid-state approaches. Nick’s work
over the past few years forms part of his greater ambition to build platforms
to assess the value of energy storage innovations across the entire storage
value chain, from exploring different cathode chemistries, to different cell
constructions, to different system integration designs.
