Urban water pollution extent and impact on the Village Creek in Birmingham, AL – Analysis and Mitigation strategies
This project analyzes the movement of pollutants around the area and studies the vulnerability of the communities living along the Village Creek River and in the flood-risk zones along the river to pollutants and promotes the inclusion of Low Impact Developments (LIDs) and green infrastructures (GI) to mitigate this issue.Birmingham Air Pollution and Urban Heat Island Effect on the Low Income and Minorities.
This study addresses the upsurge in heat-related illnesses and respiratory ailments that disproportionately affect underserved communities in Birmingham, Alabama. The primary objective of this investigation is to develop an all-encompassing system for tracking outdoor comfort that considers the combined impact of heat and air pollution on community health.Urban water pollution extent and impact on the Village Creek in Birmingham, AL – Analysis and Mitigation strategies

We will determine the feasibility of growing microalgae on farms for use as a dairy feed supplement. The energy and nutrients for the microalgae production would come from anaerobic digestion of farm waste. Just one percent of microalgae in the feed can reduce methane emissions from cows by 90%.Single-Stage Process for Biogas Purification
In “Phase I”, a cyclic adsorption-desorption process was proposed for biogas and landfill gas (LFG) upgrading. “Phase II” research pursues further improvements in the adsorption performance and long-term stability of the final aminosilica candidate.Physicochemical Degradation of Microplastics
Synthetic textiles shed microfibers during washing and drying, contributing to potential microplastic pollution in the environment. These fibers can pass through the wastewater treatment plants and reach soil and water bodies, posing potential threats to human health. This study investigates microfiber degradation under visible light and base-catalyzed hydrolysis.EPA P3 Air Scrubber
3 Phase air scrubber to reduce ammonia levels for farming.Las Vegas, NV
Optimized biochar/hydrochar for disinfection byproduct removal in water
Development of a low cost adsorbent using agricultural waste biomass to clean drinking water by removing harmful disinfection byproducts that may be present, especially during emergency situations or times of temporary water treatment (e.g. refugee camp)Vertical axis wind turbine
This novel wind turbine design maximizes power output using modern aerodynamics and structural origami principles. With its vertical axis architecture, it is tailored for urban spaces, offering enhanced efficiency, a smaller footprint, and simplified maintenance.SPONSORS & PARTNERS
