Effective and Non-toxic Underwater and Marine Adhesive
Current adhesives perform poorly underwater or in wet conditions, and use toxic solvents or chemicals. We will use novel chemistry to create mussel-inspired protected catechol-containing adhesives that will provide increased adhesion in both wet and dry conditions, with initial application to the Navy's special hull treatment for submarines.3D Bioprinting using Stiffened Polymer Bioinks and Bioorthogonal Crosslinkers
Dr. Sarah Heilshorn's lab at Stanford University has developed a platform for 3D bioprinting which stiffens the structure post-printing using chemistry that is completely bioorthogonal.Selective Removal of Barium and Select Ions from Brackish Water with Chemically Enhanced Electrodialysis
This invention can selectively remove problematic metal ions over background electrolytes. Doing so in a targeted fashion reduces energy consumption associated with traditional non-targeted methods. This technique has the potential to be applied toward other ions of interests.
