Near net shape manufacturing of magnets
A novel process allows for near net shape manufacturing of magnets with ultra-fine grain size and high coercivity.Siting and regulatory optimization for clean commodities
We are an early-stage technology company building software to streamline the siting and regulatory challenges associated with upstream natural resources production on public lands. We are focused on producers building and utilizing land-based assets powering the energy transition including carbon sequestration, geothermal, critical minerals, and emissions-focused methane and RNG projects.Microwave Irradiation-enabled Household On-site Regeneration of Activated Carbon for Sustainable Point-of-Use Removal of PFAS in Drinking Water
Household microwave oven - enabled PFAS removal from drinking waterMaking Extreme-event-stable Shorelines with Hyacinth (MESH)
MESH is a low-tech, community-based material that will prevent shoreline erosion, support germination of seeds of dune stabilizing plant species and produce a fertile soil amendment after composting. An additional goal is to reduce environmental, economic and health threats caused by, water hyacinth, an invasive species in coastal waterways.Cincinnati, OH
Practical PFAS Treatment with Functionalized Sawdust
This project is to develop and demonstrate a practical and cost-effective approach to treat PFAS in wastewater using functionalized sawdust biomass.Hybrid filtration/AOP membrane process for point of use PFAS removal from drinking water
PFAS contamination is a concern due to their long lives and health impacts. An iron oxide coated ceramic filter is used to separate the contaminants and to catalyze their degradation. The process uses materials that are readily available, non-toxic and low cost, which highlights the sustainable characteristic of the approach.A Smartphone-based Colorimetric Sensor for Household Lead Detection
In this proposed research project, we expect to develop a smartphone-based colorimetric sensor for household lead detection. The excellent sensitivity, selectivity, reusability, and cost-efficiency of the proposed sensor will allow affordable and routine monitoring of lead in the drinking water supplies of disadvantaged communities.EPA P3: US EPA Hosting the 18th Annual P3 Student Teams
P3 stands for People, Prosperity and the Planet. Through this EPA program, teams of college students can benefit people, promote prosperity and protect the planet by designing environmental solutions that move us toward a sustainable future.Enhancing the anion-exchange capacity of biochar for per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) stabilization in contaminated soils
We aim to tailor biochar from two waste sources to promote their anion-exchange capacities (AEC) for PFAS sequestration during the land application of biosolids: (i) coagulant-rich water treatment residuals and (ii) agriculture waste.Energy Fishing
The main idea for this proposal is to present comprehensive combinatorial energy fishing concerning the portable floating wind turbine structures associated with water waves and solar energy. A new water wave energy convertor system will be presented.Electrochemical valorization of waste activated sludge for ammonia and short-chain fatty acid production
Waste sludge is a readily abundant material with the potential to be separated and enriched for high-value products. These methods demonstrate an ability to successfully separate and enrich both Ammonia and Short Chain Fatty Acid Products via specialized electrolysis techniques.System and Algorithm for high efficiency thermal energy storage
The technology is a system and control algorithm for storing energy for transient renewable electricity sources such as solar and wind as heat. It uses multiple tanks containing readily available heat storage materials and discharges the heat energy in a highly efficient manner to generate electricity during night/low wind.Novel Membrane Fabrication for Improved Flux, Reduced Fouling and Efficient Treatment of PFOA
A study produced a MOF embedded ultra-thin film nanocomposite membrane using spin-coating for the interfacial polymerization of the polyamide. The resulting membrane had a 98% reduction in chemical use and a higher flux than traditional and commercial membranes. It also had antimicrobial properties and could improve water recovery.Dual use fungi to remediate groundwater oil contamination and/or enhance oil and gas recovery
Naturally occurring fungi in soil has the potential to clean up oil contamination of groundwater and enhance oil and gas recovery. These fungi free trapped oil to enhance its recovery in oil and gas fields. Where oil contamination of groundwater exists, the fungi can remediate unrecovered oil by consuming it as a food source.
